Lung scans

  • Normal ventilation and perfusion

- Ventilation-perfusion ratio of 0.85 or greater

  • Perfusion scan:

  • Ventilation scan:

- Xenon-133, Xenon-127, or krypton-81 m is given via inhalation.

  • To evaluate patients with decreased pulmonary function
  • Ventilation scan -- to evaluate the distribution of gas within the lungs
  • Perfusion scan -- to evaluate pulmonary arterial blood flow
  • V/Q scans are ordered to confirm the diagnosis of Pulmonary Emboli

  • Uncooperative patients
