Bone Biopsy (Bone needle aspiration cytology)


  • Bone tissue is normal with no tumor cells present.

  • With local anesthesia, a small incision is made in the skin, and bone biopsy needle is drilled or pushed into the bone.  Fixation with 95% alcohol.

  • Malignancies
    1. Osteogenic sarcoma
    2. Ewing's sarcoma
    3. Reticulum Cell Sarcoma
    4. Multiple Myeloma
    5. Metastatic tumor
  • Benign tumors
    1. Giant cell tumor
    2. Osteoma
    3. Osteoid osteoma
    4. Chondroma

  • Failure to obtain an adequate sample of tissue
  • Failure to send the specimen to the laboratory immediately
