  • To investigate the cause of severe abdominal or epigastric pain (esp. pancreatic disorder is suspected)
  • To evaluate pancreatic dysfunction (severe Cystic Fibrosis)

  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic disorder (trauma,abscess,cancer)
  • Obstruction of the pancreatic duct

    1. Ingestion of alcohol
    2. Narcotic medications
  • Urine
    1. Ingestion of alcohol
    2. Contamination of the specimen by menstrual flow or salivation amylase
    3. Omission of any voided specimen
    4. Failure to cool the specimen
